ICOS Citizenship

The ICOS Citizenship programme combines innovative research and policy analysis to promote pragmatic responses to today's most pressing social challenges.

ICOS aims to promote the values of citizenship and empowerment in communities at the grassroots level: processes of social transformation are achieved through multi-sector policy initiatives and joint responsibility.

ICOS supports communities to become safer, paving the way for social and economic development. The ICOS Centre of Excellence on Citizenship is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rio de Janeiro International Symposium on Public Security and Drug Policy

Co-hosted by the Brazilian National Antidrug Secretariat SENAD/GSI/PR, the Ministry of Justice’s National Public Security Secretariat SENASP/MJ, and the Directorate of the Federal Police, ICOS hosted The First International Symposium on Public Security and Drug Policy, which took place on the 25th, 26th and 27th of February, at the Sofitel Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This event brought together international authorities, experts and policy makers to discuss the most pressing challenges facing public security and law enforcement. In particular the ways in which the problem of drugs impact on public security, and the relationship between drug policy and public security policies will be explored.
